Department of English

Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa

The English Department is an internationally-recognized home for research and teaching within the language arts. Our degree programs offer both undergraduate and graduate students broad opportunities to research and study such fields as creative writing, linguistics, literature, and communication and rhetoric. Our faculty within all programs are firmly committed to classroom teaching while conducting individual and collaborative research to advance knowledge within our fields.

Part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the department is also dedicated to innovative uses of technology. It has also been a formative partner in curricular innovations such as ISU Learning Communities and ISUComm, a campus-wide initiative emphasizing written, oral, visual, and electronic communication across all four years of the undergraduate experience. Several nationally-recognized academic journals and scholarly websites are also based here.

Our website contains thorough information about the department's various degree programs and curricular resources, including information about courses and majors, faculty research interests, and the community at large. If you can't find something or need to contact our staff, please e-mail us or call our main office at (515) 294-2180.
