- Professor Bob Tremmel is professor of English and Coordinator of the English Education Program at ISU. He is from Sheldon, IA, earned his B. A. degree from the University of Iowa, taught high school English, and then returned to the University of Iowa for an M. A. in Literary Studies and a Ph. D. in English Education. After teaching at Washburn University in Topeka, KS, he came to ISU in 1989 to teach English methods courses, supervise student teachers, and work as a poet-in-the-schools. He has published numerous articles in journals such as the Harvard Educational Review, Composition Studies, Journal of Teaching Writing, Research in the Teaching of English, and English Education. He is the author of Zen and the Practice of Teaching English, and co-editor with William Broz of Teaching Writing Teachers of High School English and First-Year Composition. In addition to publishing poetry in numerous journals and magazines, he has also published two collections of poetry, Driving the Milford Blacktop and Crossing Crocker Township. He is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English, the Conference on Composition and Communication, and the Conference on English Education. From the CEE he has received the James N. Britton and Janet Emig awards for scholarship in English Education, and he was an invited participant to the CEE Leadership and Policy Summits in 2005 and 2007.
