Debra Marquart Honored with 2009 Iowa Author Award

The Des Moines Public Library Foundation sponsors the annual "Iowa Author" award to recognize and honor Iowa's rich literary heritage.

The Des Moines Public Library Foundation has announced that Iowa State University professor of English, Debra Marquart, is one of three recipients of the 2009 Iowa Author’s Award. 

 

 Marquart will be honored at a ceremony at the Des Moines Public Library on October 1, 2009.  Other recipients of the award are John Stauffer (author of Giants: The Parallel Lives of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln among other works) and Mildred Kalish (author of Little Heathens: Hard Times and High Spirits on an Iowa Farm During the Great Depression).

In addition, Barbara and Michael Gartner will receive the "Friends of Literacy" Award.
