EServer Awarded LASCAC Grant
The EServer, an online publishing venture in the arts and humanities based in the ISU English Department, was recently awarded a grant to develop a Web 2.0 tool for English Department courses.
The EServer (http://eserver.org/), an online publishing venture based in the ISU English Department, was recently awarded a LASCAC grant to develop a web service to be incorporated into about 120 sections of business and technical communication courses for about 2,500 ISU students per year.
The EServer in recent years has served as an advanced research and development location for web technologies later implemented throughout the English Department, including:
- the English Department website (http://engl.iastate.edu/, derived from the Studio for New Media website at http://newmedia.engl.iastate.edu/ which runs on the EServer)
- the English Department Course Websites (http://courses.engl.iastate.edu/, derived from the EServer Course Websites at http://courses.eserver.org/), and
- the English Department Reservation System (derived from the EServer Resource Reservation System, which is private for EServer members only)
The grant will fund an upgrade to the EServer's workstation to support the additional speed requirements and will support several graduate student workers to develop a web-informed pedagogy for English Advanced Communication curricula which has been developed in the past year by assistant professor Geoffrey Sauer.
