Gloria Betcher and Susan Yager attended the conference on "Visual Representations of Medieval Spirituality," July 16-18, 2007, in York, UK, to present papers and perform a readers' theater production of Middle English drama in York Minster with a troupe of scholars from around the country. The troupe, sponsored by the Chaucer Studio and comprised of professors from Iowa State, Baylor University, Brigham Young University, Stetson University, Murray State University, Taylor University, and Virginia Military Institute, performed The Crucifixion and The Harrowing of Hell from the York Cycle of biblical plays in the original language. This performance, Dr. Betcher's paper ("The Harrowing of Hell Made Manifest in Cornish Art and Drama"), and Dr. Yager's paper ("Visual Literacy, Visual Learning, and the Christianity and Culture CD-ROMs") were part of an interdisciplinary conference, jointly hosted by Christianity and Culture and York Minster. The aim of the conference was to explore the visual dimensions of medieval spirituality in a way which would enhance both research and teaching across a range of disciplines.
