Roberta Vann Receives Iowa Department of Education Grant

Participants of "Polyopolis" Project

The Iowa Dept. of Education has awarded a grant to Roberta Vann for her project, "Life as a Second Language: A Simulation, Part 2." The aim of the original project was to create and produce a simulation which would help Iowa educators become more aware of the cultural and linguistic challenges of being a newcomer family arriving in Iowa. The simulation, which takes place in the fictional land of "Polyopolis," has been performed on 3 occasions with a total of nearly 1000 participants, including the staff of the Iowa Dept. of Education, and has included more than 50 staff members, many of them TESL/AL and RPC's multi-lingual graduate students.
