Visitors from Germany to Tour Studio for New Media

Three visitors, invited to the United States under the auspices of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program, are coming to visit the Studio for New Media to learn about how we research, teach, and develop new media, as part of a tour new media use across the country.

Three visitors, invited to the United States under the auspices of the U.S. State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program, are coming to visit the ISU Studio for New Media on Tuesday, May 5 to learn about how we research, teach, and develop new media, as part of a tour new media use across the U.S.

The participants will include: Mr. Richard Jan Gutjahr, Reporter and Anchor, Bayerischer Rundfunk TV; Public German/Bavarian Television; Mr. Thomas Peter Jarzombek, Member of the Landtag Northrhine-Westphalia (NRW); and Ms. Ikbal Kilic, Editor-in- Chief, mikSes (an intercultural magazine).

The purpose of this ITT Project for Germany is to introduce the participants to trends in new media development and application in the United States.  Among the three participants, interests range from the political application of new media, including blogging, to governmental applications, to developments within commercial media sources (newspaper, television, radio) that integrate the internet, blogging, and other interactive applications into their services.

The visitors are meeting with newspapers and television outlets to learn about their transitions to new media; with political analysts familiar with the use of new media in the recent presidential election that continues to this day with ongoing grassroots organizing for the President’s agenda; with  media and community organizations that use new media to reach out to minority and ethnically diverse populations; and with federal, state and local governments, to understand the diversity of public sector applications of new media.  Partnerships between new media outlets, blogging sites, government entities and community and university institutions are also included wherever possible.

Because the Studio is an interdisciplinary venture with dozens of members, if you are interested in joining in the scheduled meetings please contact Geoffrey Sauer.
