Xavier Cavazos Receives Poetry Honors

Xavier Cavazos, a poet in the MFA Program in Creative Writing and Environment at Iowa State University, has recently received several national honors for his work.
In recent months, Xavier Cavazos has been selected for various honors for his creative work. He was a finalist in the 2011 Unterberg Poetry Center's Discovery/Boston Review Poetry Prize, judged by Cornelius Eady, Brenda Hillman and D.A. Powell. Cavazos's poetry manuscript, "Diamond Grove Slave Tree" was selected as a semifinalist in Crab Orchard Review's "First Book Award," and one of his poems was a semifinalist in the 2011 Salem College Rita Dove Poetry Award. More recently, his poem, "The Polk Photograph of George Washington Carver," was published in Issue 16.2 (Fall 2011) of the Crab Orchard Review. Document Actions |
