Major Requirements

Students majoring in Communication Studies must meet the following specific requirements as prescribed in each catalog.

Major Requirements


Besides meeting all university and college requirements, students majoring in Communication Studies must meet the following specific requirements as prescribed in each catalog:

2001-2003 UNIVERSITY CATALOG
Communication Studies Major (36 credit hours)
Foundation Requirements (12 credits)

ComSt 101, Introduction to Communication Studies, 3 crs.
ComSt 102, Introduction to Interpersonal Communication, 3 crs.
ComSt 203, Introduction to Communication Research Methods, 3 crs.

Select one of these two courses:
ComSt 214, Professional Communication, 3 crs.
ComSt 218, Conflict Management, 3 crs.

Upper Division Requirements (24 credits)

ComSt 301, Human Communication Theory, 3 crs.
ComSt 310, Intercultural Communication, 3 crs.
ComSt 311, Interpersonal Communication: Theory and Research, 3 crs.
ComSt 314, Organizational Communication, 3 crs.
ComSt 317, Small Group Communication, 3 crs.
ComSt 325, Nonverbal Communication, 3 crs.

Select any two of these 3 credit seminars:
ComSt 404A, Communication Theory or Research
ComSt 404B, Interpersonal Communication
ComSt 404C, Small Group Communication
ComSt 404D, Organizational Communication
ComSt 404E, Intercultural Communication
ComSt 404F, Nonverbal Communication
ComSt 404G, Training and Development

Additional Enhancement Requirement (4 credits)

Stat 101, Principles of Statistics, 4 crs. (also fulfills college Gen Ed math requirement)
College English Proficiency Requirement met by taking one of the following: Engl 302: Business Communication, or Engl 309: Report and Proposal Writing, or Engl 314: Technical Communication. 3 crs. (also fulfills college Gen Ed communication requirement)
