The Speech Communication faculty has a wide range of research interests. Their work focuses not only on rhetorical theory, theories of argumentation, speech communication, and public address but also on 19th-century women's oratory, political rhetoric, gender studies, contemporary and classical traditions of oratory, argumentation pedagogy, and new communication technologies. Members of the speech faculty, while part of the cross-disciplinary program in Speech Communication, also participate in the Rhetoric and Professional Communication Area Group within the English Department.
