Test-Out Procedures

Students may earn a "T" grade for English English 302 and English 314 by passing a test-out examination. The "T" grade will give students 3 credit hours toward graduation. The course will then be listed on students’ transcripts but will not influence their GPA’s.

University policy states that students may attempt a test-out for a course only once. Department eligibility requirements state that students must be at least juniors and must have completed (not just be finishing) 150 (formerly 104) and 250 (formerly 105). They may not be enrolled in the course at the time.

Test-out exams for English 302 and 314 are offered early in the semester, during spring and fall terms. The Director of Advanced Communication administers the test-outs.

The test itself lasts three hours, and students should be prepared to write it in the Ross Hall Mac labs. Two teachers of the course will grade the tests. At least a "C" is necessary to pass the exam. Approximately six weeks after the exam, students will receive an email message notifying them of the results.
