Accessing Classfiles from Windows PCs
Synchronizing your NetID with Novell
At the beginning of your first semester teaching in the computer classrooms, you must change the password of your ISU Net-ID to synchronize it with Novell Classfiles. To do so, follow these instructions.
- Login to the Acropolis Server at https://asw.iastate.edu/.
- Click on "Manage User"
- Choose "Change Your Password"
- Enter your old password and then your new password in the spaces provided.
- Click "Change password". Your password will be changed in a minute or so.
- To test your new password, use the test application that appears on the screen after you change your password.
NOTE: Your Net-ID password must be 5-15 characters in length and must contain two of the following: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, or punctuation.
Accessing Classfiles from the Computer Classrooms
- Right-click the red "N" in the lower-right task tray, then select Netware login at the top of the menu.
- At the login screen, the default context line should read CLASS.ENGL.IASTATE.US. Students should leave the context line at the default and enter just xcourseandsectionnumber [for example, x3148], with x as the password.
- Instructors, on the other hand, need to select CLASS and replace it with FACULTY. Then enter your newly synchronized password.
- Once you have logged in, double-click the "Computer" icon to find your classfiles drive mounted as an external drive, with all your class folders contained therein.
Logging Off
- Select the Start icon and Shutdown, then "restart" your machine. It is essential that you restart your machine or those in subsequent classes will be able to access your Classfiles and AFS space.
Accessing Classfiles from Your Office
Logging in from your office Windows machine should be the same as from the computer classrooms IF, in your Novell log-in dialog, you see IOWA selected as the Novell "tree." If another tree is selected, just click in the tree title bar and enter IOWA. In the future, IOWA will appear as an option when you click the arrow at the end of the Tree bar. Be sure the Context line reads FACULTY.ENGL.IASTATE.US [note that the final element is US, not EDU].
