Printing from the Classrooms

All lab users must log on to print. Each student is given a $5.00 printing allotment each semester, paid by the Computing Advisory Committee from student computing fees. The per page fee of 5 cents allows 100 pages of free laser printing for the semester. The default position is to the subsidy option, but instructors and non-students must select "charge to Ubill," which places the charge on their university account. If a student's subsidy lapses during the semester, the printer will print a denial of service page, and the student must then select "charge to Ubill" in order to continue printing.

Printing in Windows Classrooms

  1. The printer manager program, NetPrint, launches when you log in. The NetPrint icon should appear in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
  2. In Word or other applications, click on the File menu and select Print
  3. In the Printer Name pull-down menu, select the printer for your lab and click "OK."
  4. A window to enter your Net ID and password should appear next. If not, click on the NetPrint icon in the taskbar.
  5. A small Attention window will ask you to choose the print configuration. Read it and click "OK."
  6. In the "LPR Print Setup" window, most items are preset, except for the following, and be sure your Net-ID does appear in the first line:
    • After the default selection is "subsidy," which charges to students' $5.00/semester subsidy. Non-students should select "Ubill."
    • At the bottom of the screen, click on "print."
    • If "Ubill" is selected, a reminder appears with the per page charge and asks "Do you want to continue?" Notice that "No" is the highlighted default, meaning you must choose "Yes" to continue printing.

Printing in Mac Classrooms

  2. In the screen that next appears, click the drop-down menu labeled "Selected Set" and choose the printer for your lab.
