Advising Checklist for Advisers & Graduate Students
The basic road map for guiding you and your faculty adviser through the department's graduate programs.
Language Requirement Form
Use this form to document meeting a language requirement if required for your Program of Study. Your academic record will reflect that a language requirement was met as part of your degree requirements.

RPC Ph.D. Concentration Petition
Applies only to doctoral students in Rhetoric and Professional Communication. This petition should be submitted to the Director of Graduate Education before you begin taking coursework in your concentration, but no later than the end of your fourth semester of coursework.
Exit Survey for Graduate Programs
The survey below is intended to assist the Department of English in evaluating its graduate programs by asking our graduating students to give us some feedback. This information is voluntary, but your responses will help us measure and improve our programs. If you are concerned about confidentiality of your responses, you may leave the survey in the Graduate Secretary's 206 Ross mailbox rather than returning it in person (403 Ross) or emailing your responses (englgrad@iastate.edu). We appreciate your cooperation and hope you’ll take the time to give us your comments.
Co-Major in M.A. Programs Request
Co-majoring requires that all requirements in each of the two majors (including areas of specialization) be met (at least 15 credits of specialized courses in each of the two majors), not counting the thesis credits, and requires a minimum of 42 credit hours to complete this single M.A. degree.

Second Area of Specialization Request
Applies only to those students in the M.A. in English (Creative Writing and Literature specializations). A second specialization requires at least 15 credits of specialized courses in each of the two areas of specialization, not counting the thesis credits, and requires a minimum of 42 credit hours to complete the M.A. degree.
Exit Information Form for Graduate Students
You must submit this information both in print and electronic format to the Graduate Secretary in 403 Ross (via email to englgrad@iastate.edu) before the Director of Graduate Education (DOGE) will sign your Graduate Student Approval Slip for Graduation.
Graduate College Forms
All Graduate College forms, including: Recommendation for Committee Appointment, Request to Change Comittee Appointment, Program of Study, Modifications to the Program of Study, Application for Graduation, and Thesis/Dissertation Submission Request Form.
Transfer Area of Specialization Request
Applies only to students in the M.A. in English (Creative Writing and Literature specializations). Those requesting a change in specialization must indicate their reasons for requesting a transfer and explain their interest and preparation for study in the new area of specialization.
Transfer Credit Petition
After you have discussed transfer credit issues with your program adviser/major professor, please bring this completed form and required attachments to the Graduate English Office, 403 Ross, for approval by the Transcript Evaluator and signature by the Director of Graduate Education.
Graduate Minor Request
For Master’s students, a graduate minor consists of 9 credits in English courses, 6 of which must be at the 500-600 level. For Ph.D. students, a graduate minor consists of 12 credits in English courses, 9 of which must be at the 500-600-level
