Information on the Ph.D. programs and each of their specific Program of Study requirements.

About the Doctoral Degrees: The English Department offers two doctoral degrees: the Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Professional Communication and the Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Technology.
POS: The Committee and the Form (Ph.D.): The Ph.D. Program of Study (POS) committee normally consists of at least five members of the graduate faculty.
Preliminary Examination Requirements (Ph.D.) and ABD Status: Certain conditions must be met before a student will be allowed to take preliminary examinations in either of the doctoral programs. ABD status is obtained after the preliminary examinations.
Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Technology: Information on course requirements, curricular policies, preliminary exams, and prospectus and dissertation guidelines.
Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Professional Communication: Information on course requirements, curricular policies, preliminary exams, and prospectus and dissertation guidelines.
