Awards and scholarships available to current students in the ISU English Department.

$1000 each Returning full-time undergraduate English major Academic excellence; financial need; demonstrated expository writing ability. Some preference may be given to students planning to teach. March 7, 2008
Pearl Hogrefe Grants-in-Aid for Creative Writing up to $250 (graduate)

Graduate (any major) Excellence and promise in creative writing March 7, 2008
James and Rachel Lowrie Award $100 Junior or senior (any major) nominated by a faculty member in the English Department Demonstrated growth in the study of literature March 7, 2008
Critical Writing Award $50 (undergraduate)
$50 (graduate)
Graduate or undergraduate (any major) Excellence in critical writing as shown by an essay written for an ISU English class March 7, 2008
Aubrey Galyon Award $700 Undergraduate senior or M.A. student ready to begin work toward a Ph.D. in literature, linguistics, or rhetoric Academic excellence. Preference may be given to students with financial need. March 7, 2008
W. Paul Jones Scholarship $500 Doctoral student RPC. Admission to RPC program, full-time ISU grad student. Paper based on RPC. Scholarly merit of the submitted work is sole criteria for award. March 7, 2008
Will C. Jumper Award $100 Undergraduate (any major) Excellence in poetry writing March 7, 2008
Kurt Moody Creative Writing Award $500 Undergraduate (any major) Demonstrate excellence in creative writing: fiction writing, screenwriting, and playwriting. March 7, 2008
Quentin Johnson Award Varies, approximately $100 Graduate or undergraduate Academic excellence; interest in linguistics; preference for financial need March 7, 2008
Albert L. Walker Excellence-in-English Awards
(3 awards)
$350 (undergraduate English)
$350 (graduate any major)
$350 (undergraduate any major)
Graduate or undergraduate; Full-time student Academic excellence; exceptional ability in the study of literature March 7, 2008
$2,500 Undergraduates- English major. (soph, jr, sr.) Recipient may apply subsequent years. 2.5 GPA. Challenging family background and financial need. March 7, 2008
Richard R. Wright Award $200 Graduate student Expository writing ability demonstrated by an essay written for an ISU graduate English class; preference for financial aid March 7, 2008
