The students of ENGL 510, Intro to Computers in Applied Linguistics, cordially invite you to an end-of-semester showcase of the projects they have developed while learning how to code in Scratch.
Scratch is a visual programming language developed at MIT’s Media Lab to teach essential computer programming concepts and skills. This fall’s ENGL 510 group has been creating animations, interactive stories, games, and quizzes in the course of learning how to use iteration, conditional statements, variables, arrays, event-handling, and coordination/synchronization, as well as general problem-solving and project-design skills. For their culminating project, they have been tasked with developing a Scratch application that will be relevant to L2 learners in some way; for example, through the use of text-to-speech or machine translation.
Please set aside next Monday, Dec. 16, from 12 noon – 1:30 p.m. to stop by Ross 212 and experience hands-on demonstrations of these unique digital creations and the code that makes them work.
