Michael A. Curtis is a graduate student in the Applied Linguistics and Technology (ALT) Ph.D. program. He completed a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at the University of Northern Iowa and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer and Information Science at University of Maryland University College. Michael served 21 years in the military. While working on his master's degree, he volunteered as a tutor and teacher helping immigrants and refugees learn English and job skills. Michael is interested in corpus linguistics, computer- or mobile-assisted language learning, and research involving various computer technologies and techniques--such as artificial intelligence, natural-language processing, data science, and machine learning.
