Zotero Made Easier: Join Us for the First Brown Bag of the Year

Time

Friday, October 02 2026 at 12:00pm

Location

Ross Hall 212

Hosted by Iowa State’s Applied Linguistics and Technology (ALT) program, the Brown Bag Series is a casual lunch-hour forum for sharing research, professional development ideas, works in progress, and specialized topics connected to language, teaching, research, and technology.

This year, Chris and Danson are working to broaden the series with sessions that may be useful beyond ALT. While the series remains ALT-led, students and faculty from across the English Department are very welcome to join us.
We’re kicking things off with “Zotero: Your Sources, Sorted. Your Citations, Simplified.” Dan Coffey, ISU librarian for English literature, linguistics, RPC, and creative writing, will lead a hands-on session on using Zotero effectively as part of the academic research and writing process.

We also have a short pre-session survey for anyone interested in Zotero. Let us know what you already use Zotero for, what you would like to learn, and any questions you would like Dan to address. We’ll send the responses to Dan on Monday, giving him a chance to shape the session around what students and faculty are most interested in learning.

Before the workshop

If you plan to attend, we recommend downloading Zotero ahead of time so you can follow along with the hands-on portions of the session. You’ll want both the Zotero desktop application and the Zotero Connector for your web browser. Iowa State Library has instructions for getting both set up here: Getting Started with Zotero.

Bring your lunch, bring your Zotero questions, and come learn a few ways to make managing sources and citations a little less painful.
