Departmental Awards and Scholarships for Current Students

Each spring the English Department accepts applications from current students for several awards and scholarships. Below is a list of graduate student awards currently available for application each spring:

Graduate College Awards

Research Excellence Awards

The purpose of these Graduate College awards is to recognize graduate students for outstanding research accomplishments as documented in their theses and dissertations. Students must be nominated by their Major Professor and approved by the Graduate Studies Committee. These students are also expected to be academically superior and able to not only do research, but develop a well written product. The intent of this program is to recognize “the best of the best” graduating students who have submitted theses and dissertations. Recipients are recognized at commencement with an honor cord and are cited in the ISU Commencement Program. The award is also noted on the student’s transcript. The English Department has established guidelines for award nominations.

Teaching Excellence Awards

The purpose of these Graduate College awards is to recognize and encourage outstanding achievement by graduate students in teaching. Students must be nominated and approved by the Graduate Studies Committee. The intent is to recognize up to 10% of the graduate students involved in teaching each year. Recipients are recognized at commencement with an honor cord and are cited in the ISU Commencement Program. The award is also noted on the student’s transcript. The English Department has established guidelines for award nominations.
