A green dot is any choice, behavior, word or attitude that promotes safety for everyone and communicates utter intolerance for power-based personal violence in our Iowa State University community. A green dot is anything you do to make our community safer.
GREEN DOT DAY 2019 – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH (HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY GREEN DOT!)
Green Dot student leaders will be giving out Green Dot Day 2019 stickers, buttons, and Green Dot cookies outside Student Services Building (Pearson Hall side) between 11am to 1pm. Please encourage your students to stop by and grab Green Dot swag to promote Year 3 of Creating Culture Change and Ending Power Based Personal Violence on our campus. Feel free to send any interested student leaders in your area to assist in passing out Green Dot gear.
#WhyIStayed: Domestic Violence as a Community Issue
Green Dot at Iowa State in collaboration with Iowa State Lecture Series will host Beverly Gooden, renowned social activist and creator of the #WhyIStayed hashtag and global movement, for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). In this radical talk, Gooden challenges the question “Why did he/she stay?” and reveals how the current way we interact with survivors is a house of cards. From faulty blame attribution, to designating only men as abusers, it’s easy to overlook the sheer volume of domestic violence when the issue has historically been framed as “them” and not “us”.

We invite individuals interested in learning about how to support student survivors and folks currently doing work as campus and community support agents (advisors, residence life, police, advocates, educators, merit staff, etc). This event is ONLY for All Iowa State University Faculty, Staff, Administrators and surrounding Community Agencies. Attendees need to RSVP using this link (bit.ly/greendotdvam). Maximum attendees is 60. Lunch is provided.
Green Dot Student Bystander Training
Designed for student leaders who want to enhance their influence to address power-based personal violence in the community and learn the skills necessary to be an active bystander in preventing sexual violence relationship violence, and stalking.
