Bio

Shalini Singh is a second-year MFA and environment program candidate and program Assistant for Iowa State University. She is a leader in the Emerging Leaders Academy cohort of 2023-24 and the assistant poetry editor for DIAGRAM, a reputed journal. Her first prose poetry book, Confessions of a Turophile, was published by Panini Publishers in 2018. Shalini has been Longlisted by The Bombay Review as 20 Under 30 South Asian Writers for Fiction. Her nonfiction, fiction and prose poems have been published in Outlook India, LiveWire, Kitaab, Oberon Magazine, Berkeley Poetry Review, Poetically, The Spectacle, Spectrum, SUSPECT, and Hobart, Hayden’s Ferry Review, among others.

Having lived many lives, as a conceptual writer and educator who loves teaching creative writing and traditional subjects like math and sciences, Shalini holds a bachelor’s & master’s degree in law from GNLU. Her goal is to integrate humanities with sciences in exciting new ways. Having written on themes that revolve around environmental justice, disappeared and disappearing people; macrocosm & microcosm, latent patterns in society, rituals that are lost, pareidolia, landscapes, and disregarded facets of human lives, Shalini wishes to explore her time working with ideas, researching on Dada artworks, excavating truths and facilitating workshops.

She is completing her second hybrid prose poetry book and a collection of underground narratives.
