BA in English, Literary Studies

In this program, majors will develop their ability to analyze and interpret literary works as expressions of, and shaping forces in, culture. To this end, courses will focus extensively on situating literature within historical, theoretical, aesthetic, social/political, and ethnic contexts. Through such work, majors will also gain knowledge of the discipline's practices, specialized terminology, and research methods--all skills that will enhance students' abilities in analytical reading, writing, speaking, and research.

English Major Core Requirements, 2005-07

All English majors take a common core of 27 credits plus a required introduction to the major and a capstone portfolio course, along with completing additional advanced study requirements for a selected progam of study. Courses used to satisfy advanced study requirements cannot be used for the English major's core requirements detailed below.
