Congratulations!
Associate Professor Linda Shenk is the 2020 recipient of the Albert W. Fields award from the South-Central Renaissance Conference. The award is granted every year for the best article to appear in the SCRC’s journal, Explorations in Renaissance Culture. Her remarkable essay, “Praising Elizabeth I in Latin at Norwich (1578),” impressed the judges who reviewed the articles in volume 46 of Explorations. The judges noted that her excellent piece “highlighting the erudition of Queen Elizabeth (rather than simply her virginity, as the Norwich progress usually recalls), is itself an erudite analysis of the complex of learned compliments created for the queen at this critical moment.” The editor and the board agreed with that assessment.
The Fields award is a memorial to one of the early editors of Explorations in Renaissance Culture and a stalwart in the South-Central Renaissance Conference.
