Pearl Hogrefe Fellowship in Creative Writing

Information about the Hogrefe Fellowship, awarded each year to graduate students interested in creative writing.

Each year, the advisory committee of the Pearl Hogrefe Fund awards a Fellowship in Creative Writing.

Application Deadline: January 15

Note: To be considered for the Pearl Hogrefe Fellowship in Creative Writing, you must submit a Hogrefe Fellowship Application form with your cover letter/personal goals statement for admission by January 15. Fellowship recipients will be notified after April 1. You may direct questions about the Hogrefe Fellowship to:

Although applicants to the Hogrefe Fellowship may major in any field at Iowa State University, the fellowship is designed for students interested in creative writing. Fellowship holders are required to take a minimum of six semester credits of graduate work in Creative Writing during the fellowship year.

The fellowship is granted for a nine-month academic year and currently carries a stipend of $1,300 per month, subject to the student maintaining satisfactory grades. In addition, the fellowship will provide for payment of university tuition and fees during the fellowship year.

 

Eligibility

  • Applicants must qualify for full, unrestricted admission to the Iowa State University Graduate College.

  • Students currently enrolled for graduate study in the M.F.A. Program in Creative Writing and Environment at Iowa State University are ineligible.

  • Previous recipients of the Hogrefe Fellowship are ineligible.
