Peace Cookbooks: Mixing Gender, Food, and Activism

“An army marches on its stomach.” This saying, typically attributed to Napoleon, highlights the vital role of food in war. But what about those who march for peace? 

Dive into the world of peace activist cookbooks alongside Dr. Abby Dubisar during her presentation “Promoting Peace, Subverting Domesticity: Cookbooks Against War, 1970-2010.” Discover how these unique cookbooks position the kitchen as the place where gender and politics ferment.

A graduate of Miami University of Ohio, Dr. Dubisar has extensively researched women peace activists’ rhetorical strategies, presenting her findings at national and international conferences. She passes on her knowledge by teaching courses in popular culture analysis, gender and communication, writing, and rhetoric.
