About my teaching

My approach to teaching has been informed by many models (both good and bad), concepts, teacher-development courses, and other learning experiences. Like most teachers, I strive to create a learner-centered classroom; to use a judicious variety of methods, techniques, and interaction patterns appropriate to my aims and the context; and to be available and responsive to my students’ needs.

How I came to teach what I teach

Teaching (and coordinating a course on) second language writing allows me to indulge my love of teaching ESL while also pursuing my research agenda.

Current research

I am investigating how use of tools for Automated Written Corrective Feedback (AWCF) affect students’ revision behaviors and features of their written output (grammatical accuracy, complexity, and writing quality) on timed writing assignments.

Outside of the university…

I like spending time with my family, cooking, traveling, swimming, biking, fishing, and learning new things.
