Bio

Mahdi Duris is a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Linguistics & Technology at Iowa State University, specializing in technology-driven approaches to second language pronunciation, second language writing, and AI in education. His pronunciation work focuses on phonetics and developing automated systems for intelligibility ratings. He also researches Automated Writing Evaluation (AWE) and the integration of AI in EFL/ESL learning environments. Mahdi is a research assistant to Dr. John Levis (NSF-funded project) and Dr. Volker Hegelheimer (U.S. Department of State-funded project).
