Bio
Maddison Evans is a fiction writer and biologist pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing and Environment at Iowa State University, where her two fields of study can continue to intermingle and strengthen one another. She was an editor for Brainchild, a literary and arts magazine, for three of her five years at Kent State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. Prior to becoming an editor, two of her poems were published in the 2023 edition of the magazine, and in 2025, she was awarded the Anna Ulen Engleman Creative Writing Award for one of her short stories.
Maddison’s creative work often focuses on themes of what it means to be human and the universal connections we can form with nature and with one another. Her passion for science informs even her more fantastical stories, and she is a firm believer that artistic expression can play a valuable role in environmental activism as well.
