Bio
Andrea Flinn, a newly appointed Lecturer in English, has taught SpCm 2120 Fundamentals of Public Speaking. Before coming to Iowa State, she taught English as a Second Language for over ten years in the U.S. and the Middle East. She has served as a Fulbright fellow at the University of Jordan, while also volunteering at a community center for refugees from Syria, Iraq, and Sudan.
Prior to completing her Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Technology at Iowa State, she received a Master’s degree in English from San Francisco State University, as well as a Master’s degree in Arabic from Middlebury College. Her research uses corpus linguistics approaches to create and assess pedagogical materials for the Levantine dialect of Arabic. Her work has been published in Register Studies, Corpus Pragmatics, Applied Corpus Linguistics, and The Electronic Journal for English as a Second Language.
When not in Ames, she can often be found pedaling or paddling around Story County.
