Bio
Daocheng Lin is a Ph.D. student of Rhetoric and Professional Communication at Iowa State University. His primary research interest lies in the visual rhetoric of gift-giving interactions on social media, situated within the realms of visual communication, visual culture, and social media.
Before joining the RPC program, he worked as a lecturer in visual communication at a university, where he conducted walking ethnography in historic districts in China. He found that these districts can be recognized as symbols of nostalgia under the impact of social media, which inspired his research interest in the impact of social media. He also designed and taught courses in digital media and visual design. He received his master’s and bachelor’s degrees at Guangxi Arts University, where he researched the iconography of New Yorker cover illustrations based on Erwin Panofsky’s theories.
