Bio
Elizabeth Helmick is excited to rejoin the Department of English as a Lecturer after serving key administrative and support roles across campus, including the Writing and Media Center, the Academic Success Center, and the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching.
Elizabeth earned her MA in English Literature from Iowa State University, where she also served as an instructor for ISUComm foundational courses. Her diverse professional background prior to her graduate career includes roles as an account executive for a boutique advertising agency in Las Vegas, an English teacher in France, and a dedicated online peer writing coach.
Her current research centers on trauma and resilience theory in early modern English literature. Additionally, Elizabeth explores pedagogical methods for facilitating discussions on trauma and resilience in academic settings. Her scholarship includes a co-authored chapter in the 2022 volume Post-Pandemic Pedagogy: A Paradigm Shift, analyzing Iowa State University’s transition to online teaching during the pandemic.
When she is not teaching or researching, Elizabeth can be found wrangling her two children all over town while bopping along to the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack on repeat.
