About my teaching

I love teaching how we use different genres in professional and technical communication, and how each form of communication is adapted for specific audiences and purposes. I enjoy bringing in aspects of popular culture and things I’m interested in as a person into the classroom to illustrate how communication works in professional environments. I am also deeply interested in how humans interact with digital technologies and the way we use these technologies to communicate, and so I try to bring this interest into my classes and assignments. As a technical communication teacher, I value sharing with you the knowledge you need to be successful as a student and give you skills to be successful in your future careers. Along with giving you skills to build on, I also hope to instill at least a little bit of a curiosity and openness about the possibilities of technology and technical communication.

Outside of the university

I consider myself to be nerdy. I play Magic: The Gathering (commander) and love deck building. I also play PC video games, mainly open world, survival, first-person games like Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Like any good former English major, I do enjoy reading as well, and you can maybe find me at the Ames Public Library on the weekends.
