Bio
Katie Painter is a Graduate Teaching Assistant and master’s student, specializing in literature. Throughout her time at ISU, Katie has taken advantage of several other professional development opportunities as well. She served as a Summer 2024 Research Assistant for Dr. Rochelle Zuck, working on projects surrounding American Indian editors and women’s print history.
Additionally, she recently presented her work on Beloved and slave narratives then vs. now for the Toni Morrison Society at the American Literature Association’s annual conference. Katie really enjoys getting to meet others who share her interests at events like this one!
Katie’s current work looks at use of genre by female writers of color as a strategy for resistance and for conveying trauma. This project especially focuses on Toni Morrison and Frances Ellen Watkins Harper. However, her broader research interests include the 19th century novel, American literature (19th century-present), especially African American literature, religion, women’s writing, print culture, etc.
Prior to her time at ISU, Katie graduate Magna Cum Laude from Kansas State University in 2023 with her BA in English and a minor in French.
