3.1 About the MFA Degree
The English Department offers a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing and Environment.
Students must complete a minimum of 54 credit hours of graduate coursework including six credits in ENGL 6990 with a minimum of 22 graduate credits (not counting thesis credits) at Iowa State University regardless of how many credits are transferred. Requests for transfer credit consideration must be made by completing a Transfer Credit Petition form accompanied by the required paperwork (refer to transfer credit information). Please refer to the MFA Creative Writing and Environment Progress to Degree Checklist for help in planning your progress through the program. Students with a BA or BS degree are expected to complete a master of fine arts program at Iowa State University within seven years.
