4.1 About the Doctoral programs
The English department offers two Doctor of Philosophy degrees:
- PhD in Applied Linguistics and Technology (ALT)
- PhD in Rhetoric and Professional Communication (RPC)
Students must complete a minimum of at least 36 graduate credits at ISU, including all dissertation research ENGL 6990 (thesis) credits. Requests for transfer credit consideration must be made by completing a Transfer Credit Petition form accompanied by the required paperwork (refer to transfer credit information) Please refer to the appropriate Progress to Degree Checklist for help in planning your progress through the program. Students with a BA or BS degree are expected to complete a doctoral program at Iowa State University within seven years.
