Dr. Linda Shenk received a grant from the Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research for her project “Co-producing Climate Storylines with Women Landowners in Iowa.”

Led by Dr. Shenk, this project creates and tests a storytelling-based framework that allows researchers, community partners, and women landowners in Iowa (some of agriculture’s potentially influential yet silenced stakeholders) to co-produce climate narratives and climate-wise action. This framework combines emerging use of climate “storylines” with a humanities approach to collaborative story making inspired by William Shakespeare: Shakespeare’s plays and his era’s theatrical practices that create what scholars now call a “cognitive ecosystem.” This project fosters relationship building among diverse experts as equal partners for social-environmental resilience.
