Director’s Letter

Dear all,
One of my priorities as I start my five-year term as Director of ISUComm Foundation Courses is to ensure that our curriculum is what I’m calling AI-aware. You will hear more in the coming months about how you can get involved in our curriculum redesign efforts. For now, we have some exciting opportunities to learn more about AI, writing, and higher education.
Because the English Department is hosting five campus visits for the new AI and writing faculty position in the next few weeks, we will all have the chance to learn about a range of perspectives on this important topic. The research talks and open forums will be fantastic professional development opportunities for everyone involved in teaching Foundation Courses, and I encourage you to attend as many of the events as you can.
Please also mark your calendars for this semester’s ISUComm Foundation Courses Brown Bag Series. Our first session is this Wednesday, January 31 at 1:10pm in Ross 412 (the new meeting room). “Teaching Rhetorical Analysis” is our focus, so this meeting will be particularly useful for anyone who is teaching ENGL 250 this semester. You will find a flyer with this semester’s dates, times, locations, and topics below and, if you’re teaching Foundation Courses this semester, in your campus mailboxes.
Best wishes for a great semester,
Lesley
