Bio
Altay Ozkul holds a BA in English Translation & Interpreting from Izmir University of Economics, Turkiye and an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language / Applied Linguistics from Iowa State University. He has worked as a freelance translator & interpreter and English tutor in Turkiye, and as a lecturer at Iowa State University where he taught first-year composition and oral communication strategies courses after graduating from the TESL/AL program.
He started to pursue a PhD degree in Applied Linguistics and Technology in 2017. In 2020, due to the COVID pandemic, he took a year of absence from the program and went back to Turkiye to work as a lecturer for two universities where he taught courses on English composition, introduction to English translation, discourse analysis, translation of children’s literature and ESL courses for culinary students. He came back to Iowa State to continue his PhD studies in 2021. In 2023, he was the recipient of Graduate Teaching Excellence Award from Iowa State University. His research interests are project-based language learning and teaching English composition.
